Powering Africa International University’s 50 acre campus
Tailored to the University’s needs, we designed and delivered 2 key solar systems while performing maintenance on a 3rd existing system. Combining grid tied and hybrid systems ensured that the institution's energy needs were efficiently met.
The Challenge
Like many institutions across Kenya, Africa International University face’s rising energy costs and the operational risk of grid instability. Running a campus reliably, affordably, and sustainably meant looking beyond the grid.
Prior to the partnership with AM Power, the campus had a solar system that due to a combination of poor maintenance and the University’s growth no longer met their energy needs.
Their partnership with us was focused on expanding their system to meet their growing energy needs, ensuring critical infrastructure was always powered and carrying out maintenance on the existing system to bring back operational efficiency.
The Solution
Based on the clients need’s and budget we were able to then design and install the following systems:
System 1: 60 kWp grid tie system
This system is designed to meet the day-to-day load, powering the university and its classes, reducing the grid reliance and energy bills consequently.
System 2: 22.5 kWp + 20kWh (Battery) hybrid system.
This system is essential for the university to power critical loads whenever there are power outages, during the day and night.
Lastly we carried out basic maintenance on the existing system.
The Impact
By moving to solar, Africa International University has reduced its dependence on the national grid, insulated its operations from tariff increases, and taken a concrete step toward its sustainability goals.
Why It Matters
This project reflects what AM Power delivers for institutions across East Africa: dependable, cost effective, end to end solar solutions built for real operational needs, not just green credentials.
